The STEM camp with Ramsey at the Sonoma Academy was a huge success. Ryden loved it! They learned how to code the controls for a drone. They also coded controls for a quadriplegic wheelchair and many other projects. Ramsey will be offering more classes throughout the year. Ryden enjoyed the classes so much that I will be signing him up for more.
Also did some reading, some more swimming at Ives Pool and our regular pick up games of ultimate frisbee on Tuesdays and Saturdays. There are four people that Ryden knows through other circles (one physician's assistant, one boy from Reach, a girl and her Dad, friend of Clare, from SA) which is nice for him to have some overlap in this small community.
Went to piano lessons with Miles, although Ryden continues to state that he no longer wants to do piano.
We did find a name for Tenchi Aikido youth classes on Weds and Saturdays, taught by Betsy Hill, a 5th degree black belt. The videos on her website were impressive.
We had Silas (Ryden's step-brother) over for a playdate and dinner. We walked back to Silas' Dad's house and we were able to meet his new baby sister!
Ryden has a great sense of humor, telling jokes, funny facial expressions and pulling silly pranks on me. A few times I have had to remind him of our screen time limits, but it is getting easier (especially since installing software that controls access by time of day and number of minutes in a 24 hr period. We continue to have conversations about the variety of content on the internet and why some of it is inappropriate. I find these conversations important opportunities to discuss online content, for him to practice good judgement, to identify and understand poor judgement by others when he sees it, whether it be in videos, blogs, forums, gaming or photos posted online.
